My wife and I wish to travel by bus / train to Istanbul from Tehran: but the bus journey we know is very long (40 hours), so can we stop at some city like Tabriz for a few days and then resume our journey?
Can we repeat this on our way back to Tehran from Istanbul?

Hello,
I do not think you will have any problem doing that...
If you get to Turkey part there are so many places that you can stay and next day continue going to Istanbul or vise versa....
