Erzurum Palandöken

Palandöken mountains, having 3185 m. peak is located at the south of Erzurum and lies in the direction of east - west. The first and extensive project materialized in Turkey was Erzurum-Palandöken Winter Sports and Tourism master Plan Study. At the executed study, it was realized that the natural structure and the climate of the Palandöken Mountains comprises the necessary qualities for international winter sports resort. At the project, it had been anticipated that at the three fields, a total of 32 thousand people can ski per day, international competitions, even winter Olympics could be arranged and a total of six thousand people could have job opportunities.

Arrival There are flights from Ankara and İstanbul to Erzurum every day. The ski resort is at 5 km distance from the Erzurum City Center. It is at a distance of only 10 minutes from Airport. Among the winter season, there are public bus journeys from the city center.

Geography Erzurum is one of the highest and coldest cities of Turkey. Harsh terrestrial climate is encountered. The city is covered with snow during 150 days of a year. At the normal winter conditions the city has a snow drop of 2 - 3 meters. The dominant wind direction is south and west.

The skiing field is located at the altitude zone of 2200 - 3176 meters. Because of the terrestrial climate, skiing is possible on the "powdery snow" among the season. The most suitable period for skiing is between 10 December - 10 May.

Accommodation and Other Services The 4 and 5 star accommodation facilities, ski house, daily facilities and restaurants are available. Ski instruction and equipment rental services are available.

Mechanical Facilities and Running Tracks The running tracks of Palandöken Ski center are among the longest and steepest ski running tracks of the world. With the longest running track of 12 km., the total length of the tracks are approximately 28 km. Having the altitude difference of 1000 meters between the start line and the finish line, Palandöken has two registered tracks for competitions of Slalom and grand Slalom. (Ejder Track and Kapıkaya Track)

The Ski Resort has 5 chairlift (a total of 4500 persons / hour capacity), 1 T bar (300 Person / hour capacity), 2 baby lift ( a total of 1800 persons capacity ) and 1 gondola lift (1500 person / hour capacity) at service.
